Peter van der Spek CSO

Peter van der Spek received his PhD at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Promotor Prof. Dr. D. Bootsma & Prof Dr. J.H.J. Hoeijmakers). The title of his thesis was Cloning and Characterization of Excision Repair genes.

Van der Spek has held positions at the University of Osaka and Tokyo RIKEN Institutes in Japan. In parallel he obtained a visiting professorship at the Melbourne based Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute.

Subsequently, he has founded the Organon bioinformatics group after Akzo-Nobel had signed up for the Incyte database. Three years later he joined Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development in Belgium where he was responsible for the bioinformatics group supporting 10 drug discovery programs across therapeutic areas, working in a global team with scientists from the La Jolla, Raritan and Springhouse divisions in the USA.

Since March 2003 Van der Spek holds a position at the Erasmus MC as a professor in Bioinformatics. Van der Spek is one of the founders of Crosslinks.
